This is must resource for all parents to sign their child up on the Texas Medicaid Wavier program as soon as they have a diagnosis of any disability. Wait lists are between 10-14 years, so don’t delay!

Texas Health and Human Services

The Health and Human Services Autism Program champions excellence in the delivery of services for families of children with autism. Services are provided through grant contracts with local community agencies and organizations that provide applied behavioral analysis and other positive behavior support strategies. The program helps improve the quality of life for children on the autism spectrum and their families.

Texas A&M Coach to Communicate

Attend a free online webinar on ways to improve the communication skills of children and adolescents on the autism spectrum. Service providers may also attend this webinar.

University of Houston at Clear Lake – Verbal Behavior Clinic

The VBC offers a variety of services to individuals and their families to teach communication and social skills. There is no diagnostic or age requirement to qualify for services.

This is a personal favorite. Training, support, and resources for educators serving students with autism. They have free online training, resources, and many online support hubs.

 

Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities: Partners in Policymaking

Partners teaches leadership skills necessary to develop positive partnerships with elected officials and other policymakers who make decisions about the services that you and/or your family use. Partners is accessible, informative, and empowering. The graduates of Partners often become members of boards, councils, task forces, and advisory committees; some run for elected office.

The Arc of Texas is a great advocacy group that created this guidebook to help parents understand each part of your child’s IEP.

Texas Education Agency – Commissioner’s Rules for Autism Supplement

Each individual diagnosed with autism and has an IEP in public education has an additional supplement to their IEP called what autism supplement for student, staff, and family supports. Read the guidelines on each of these here.
